Claude Has a Funky Error

Hey kids! I ran into a weird issue, in case this comes up for anyone else, because I spent wayyyyyyyyyy too much time on this stupidity ....

I was working on upgrading/installing some mcp servers and plugins for my Claude and testing out a few things. While I was testing my installs, I asked Claude to do a web fetch for me of a random page I had up on my browser. It happened to be a Wikipedia page.

Claude responded with this weird error: 😱

Error: Request failed with status code 403 

... I legitimately thought the web fetch was broken, so I spent FOREVERRRRRR troubleshooting the web fetch. Come to find out, that wasn't even the issue. It's a bug with some websites, including Wikipedia - here's the bug noted in Github, with a few other issues linked in the comments too. You get a 403 or 503 error on the search.   https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/22846

One thing I noticed is that when the fetch works - Claude doesn't ask you anything - it just does the fetch. 

When it's 'going to fail' it asks you if it can continue, as shown.

 So there you have it!! If you get a weird error like this, it's not you, it's Claude. Don't waste time troubleshooting because nothing will fix it. What you can do is copy the text you want from the website and paste it into a document or into Claude directly instead of having it do a search.
